pimple care treatment

There is a lots of debate about pimple and exposure to the sun. Some people feel that tanning improves their pimple. On the other hand some pimple medication can make you skin more sensitive to the damaging rays of the sun.

Prolonged exposure to the damaging rays of the sun can lead to melanoma (skin cancer) and premature aging. This is particularly true if you are using pimple medication that makes your skin more sensitive.

Exposure to the sun is not all bad, some exposure will allow your skin will produce vitamin D. Vitamin D is good at preventing cancer including skin cancer and great for the overall health of you skin. It is one of the vitamins recommended for people prone to pimple.

It is possible to get Vitamin D through your diet or supplements however there are studies which show that the Vitamin D made by our skin when exposed to sunlight is in a more usable form. This seems logical why would our bodies manufacture anything but the best.

Some exposure to sunlight has also been shown to help with depression, improve your mood and add to your general feeling of well being.

Getting your daily dose of natural Vitamin D is not about tanning, the best way to get you vitamin D is to expose as much of skin as you are comfortable in exposing for 15 – 20 minutes before 10 am or after 4 pm when sun is not too strong.

If however you are taking or using any pimple treatment that makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight you will need to be careful to protect you skin. Use a non-comedogenic ( doesn’t block your pores) sunscreen of at least SPF30 whenever you are out in the sun, particularly anytime between 10 am & 4 pm.

Remember that this applies to both summer and winter. Be even more careful when you are around water, sand and snow which can increase your chances of getting burnt.

Avoid tanning beds too when using any anti pimple treatment that increases sun sensitivity.

If you are under the care of a doctor or dermatologist they will advise you about whether the treatments you are using will make your skin sensitive to sun exposure. If you are using over the counter products you will need to carefully read the instruction or product information.

Tanning does not prevent pimple and can be very damaging if you skin has been sensitized by pimple treatments. If your skin has not been sensitized to sunlight, a little bit of sun without burning can help you body produce it’s own Vitamin D. As with most things in life a little can do you good and too much will damage your skin.
